INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION (IUI)

IUI
Intrauterine insemination

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a painless procedure performed on the day of ovulation. On this day, the partner provides a sperm sample, which is then processed in the laboratory. After processing, the motile sperm are concentrated into a very small volume (~0.5 ml) and are then placed directly into the uterus using a catheter. IUI requires that the woman’s fallopian tubes are open, allowing the sperm to move through them to reach and fertilize the egg.

Conditions like mild oligospermia (slightly below-normal sperm quality) can be managed effectively with this method.

IUI can also be performed using donor sperm (heterologous insemination). In this case, the sperm is sourced from a sperm bank, either domestic or international.
