Dr. Kanakas has over 30 years of experience in reproductive medicine.

Many of our international patients come to us after years of unsuccessful treatment at home — or after discovering that the care and legal framework they need simply isn’t available wherethey live. We understand the weight of that journey, and we treat every patient with the time, attention, and honesty they deserve.

Led by Dr. Nikos Kanakas, our team has helped bring more than 5,000 children into the world across more than 20 countries.

Our egg donation programme is designed especially for women over 45, with short waiting times and personal care from Dr. Kanakas.

Why US, Canadian or Australian patients Choose Greece for IVF treatment and Egg Donation?

There are several reasons why patients from North America, Australia and Ireland make the journey to Athens for fertility treatment. Some come because of legal restrictions at home. Others because of long waiting lists, limited donor availability, or age limits that do not apply in Greece.

Many are also surprised to find that treatment in Greece costs considerably less than at home — without any compromise in quality or care.

Below, we explain the most common reasons our international patients choose Embryoland.

Legal framework and anonymity

In Greece, egg donation is regulated by law and fully anonymous. Donors are carefully screened and matched to recipients based on physical characteristics such as hair colour, eye colour and skin tone. The identity of the donor is never disclosed — to the recipient, or to any child born as a result of treatment.

This is an important consideration for patients from countries where anonymous donation is restricted or no longer available, including Australia, Canada and parts of the United States.

Donor availability — short waiting time

In many countries, the scarcity of egg donors means patients face waiting times of one to three years. At Embryoland, we maintain a continuously screened donor pool, and in most cases patients can be matched and begin treatment within a matter of weeks.

Treatment up to the age of 54

Greek legislation permits egg donation IVF for women up to the age of 54. Our team has extensive experience supporting women over 45 — many of whom had been turned away by clinics in their home country on the basis of age alone.

Personal, continuous care from Dr. Kanakas

hat our international patients most often mention is the personal attention. Dr. Kanakas personally contacts every new patient. He is available throughout the treatment process and remains in touch after patients return home.

    How Egg Donation Works

The donor’s eggs are fertilised with sperm from the recipient’s partner or from a donor. The resulting embryos are then transferred to the recipient’s womb. To prepare for this, the recipient receives hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to synchronise her cycle with the donor’s and to prepare the lining of the womb for implantation.
